FAQ's

On The Horizon, FAQ

Will an OTH tent fit my vehicle? Every On The Horizon rooftop tent mounts to crossbar style roof racks, tub racks and canopies, which covers most 4x4s, SUVs and utes. Fit is rarely the problem. Load rating is. The tents weigh 80kg to 120kg depending on the model, so the rack, tub rack or canopy has to carry that while you are driving. Send us what you are running and we will tell you straight whether it suits.

How long does setup take? Under 90 seconds. Our tents are designed for fast, simple deployment so you can get camp set up and get to relaxing, not wrestling with poles.

Why do OTH tents run larger than most other brands? Most rooftop tents on the market sit in the 1.2–1.3m range. OTH specialises in larger sizing, from 1.4m up to 1.9m, because we build for practicality and usability first. More room means more comfort for couples, families, and anyone who wants to actually stretch out after a day on the road.

What's included with the tent? Everything you need is included with every tent, solar is available as an optional extra if you want to add it. Full specs for each model are listed on the individual product pages.

How much does an OTH tent weigh? On The Horizon tents weigh between 80kg and 120kg depending on the model. The 1.4 is 80kg, the 1.5 Pro is 95kg, the 1.4X is 97kg, the 1.4Z is 107kg and the 1.9 Penthouse is 120kg. Before ordering, check the dynamic load rating of your roof rack, tub rack or canopy. That is what it can carry while you are driving, and it is always the lower of the two numbers a rack quotes. The static rating, what it holds parked, is the bigger number and is not the one that matters here.

Do you ship Australia-wide? Yes, we ship Australia-wide. Shipping timeframes are calculated at checkout based on your location.

Can I pay in installments? Yes, Zip is available at checkout for buy-now-pay-later.

How many people can sleep in an OTH tent? Depends on the model, and these are sized against real mattress dimensions rather than marketing labels.

  • 1.4, 145cm wide, between a double and a queen, sleeps 2 adults
  • 1.4X, 140cm wide, between a double and a queen, sleeps 2 adults
  • 1.4Z, 142cm wide, between a double and a queen, sleeps 2 adults
  • 1.5 Pro, 155cm wide, just over a queen, sleeps 2 adults
  • 1.9 Penthouse, 190cm wide, wider than a king, sleeps 3 to 4

What if it rains, how weatherproof is it? Rain tested and proven in real Australian conditions, from coastal wind to alpine rain. Waterproof is the wrong word to chase, and no canvas tent is fully waterproof whatever a brand tells you. On The Horizon tents are water resistant, built from a hard shell aluminium lid over 350gsm ripstop poly-cotton canvas. The shell takes the weather and the canvas sheds rain while still breathing, which is what stops the moisture you breathe out overnight condensing inside. A fully sealed tent keeps the rain out and leaves you wet from the inside instead. Pack it away dry, the same as any canvas, and it will last you years.
